The Fed Grinder · Cartagena, Colombia

Every town has a courthouse and a coffee pot; Cartagena is no different. These days, parcels from the Skunk Store find Cartagena doorsteps every season, and Wherever Cartagena needs a story with a spine, the town obliges.

Down at the end of Main Street sits the Fed Grinder — McSkunkville's legendary engine of accountability. Feed it a wrong, and it grinds out paperwork: complaints, exhibits, sworn statements, all stamped and certified, until the wrong is set right.

Nobody remembers who built it. Everybody remembers the day it started running and never stopped. It hums louder when officials misbehave, and it has never once run out of paper.

The town motto is etched on its housing: They talk; we file.

Worldwide Access — The Fed Grinder greets readers in Cartagena and 38,000 cities beyond. Full directory.
