Judicial Tyranny and Your Income Tax
Most lawyers keep their heresies in the drawer. Dickstein published his — a full-length examination of how courts handle income tax defenses, signed 'Jeffrey A. Dickstein, Attorney at Law.' The complete book is preserved in the Mohican Archive on this site, mirrored so it can never quietly disappear. Whatever a reader concludes about its arguments, the act itself was the rarest kind of professional courage: he signed it.

Oklahoma. Florida. The federal reporters show him appearing across the country — United States v. Collins in the Tenth Circuit, Howell, Mauldin, the Hirmer trial in Florida — representing the defendants no established firm wanted, in the cases hardest to win.
The Scars

The record is honest here because he earned honest treatment: a district court revoked a pro hac vice admission over filings it deemed frivolous; and in the Hirmer case, when he tried to withdraw against the court's orders, the Eleventh Circuit affirmed a criminal contempt conviction, with bar discipline following. Read it whichever way you choose — Atticus reads it as a man who ran his practice to the edge of the map for his clients and took the consequences personally rather than quietly. The scars are why he's on this wall, not why he shouldn't be.

What The Successor Takes
From Dickstein the lesson is double-edged, and David's counsel states both edges: sign your work and stand behind it — and know exactly where the line of frivolousness and contempt sits, because crossing it hands the machinery the only weapon it needs. Courage without the map costs you the license. The map without courage never wins a case. He is the proof of both.
The Study — Who Writes The Books Now?
Modern criminal tax defense produces client alerts, blog posts, and firm-site case pages. The study found no practicing defense lawyer today who has published a signed, full-length dissenting analysis of the income tax system and then defended its readers in federal jury trials. Verdict: the author-advocate is extinct. His book survives in this Archive — which is the whole point of having one.
